Are we really going to do this?

(Annie)

Sad. I've teased Shawn for years about paying money to reserve internet domain names he isn't using - but no more! We wanted to start a blog called simply "baileyplanet," or "thebaileyplanet," but both are taken. So for now I guess we will have to settle for "ourbaileyplanet" which is still a reference to our holiday newsletter (produced mainly by Shawn and undoubtably better written than anything you will find by me here).

I really, really love the pictures we just had taken! So much so that I wanted to make a blog to share them with all of you.

Another reason I may finally be turning to blogging is as an alternative for facebook; which I only recently got into. I'm kind of antifacebook right now after reflecting on the roll it had in undermining a marriage of 2 people I care deeply about. In this context it just all makes me uncomfortable to get invitations to "be friends" with guys I haven't sceen since highschool. I wish them the best and think of them fondly and all; but I'm not sure I want them really getting regular updates on my life and vice versa. I don't want to be rude and not accept invitations, but really what good could come of it! I am considering deleting my facebook account once this blog is really up and running. Facebook is amazing but I am choosing to focus on friends and family that I wish I took better care of now (especially the ones that I am inviting to see this blog!)

My final reason for starting my blog is that I do not intend to ever scrapbook (or keep a journal). I haven't printed a picture since Audrey was a baby. So, I guess this way perhaps I will do more with my photos than save them as a file on my computer. By the way, if you want to tell me where online you back up your photos (free) I need to do that. I am always afraid my computer will be damaged and then my photo files will be lost forever. (No I don't save them all to discs).

For any of you who still do not have your own blogs; this is all new to me but did you know that if you have your own blog you can use it track all the blogs of friends and family in one place?!? If I had known I could log in and see a list of all their blogs and who has updated theirs so easily; I would have made a blog long ago for that reason alone. It is way easier than checking each one I have saved as a favorite individually!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Flickr.com is a good place to post photos or photobucket.com, but be sure to read the licensing agreements etc. If it's just to backup files, you can always use gmail and email them to yourself...it's free and easy. What happened with the couple and Facebook?

  3. HEy Annie, I saw the little line under your card and was so excited to see you finally got a blog. I love facebook--but am not updating myself as regularly as I do my blog. It's kindof just out there with occasional pics of the family. I agree it is kindof strange it become friends with someone you barely knew in HS but I've also reconnected with people that were friends in HS and Jr High that I haven't seen for years. Anywho, blogs are awesome and yes that feature that tells you who has updated their blog is awesome!

  4. I haven't printed photos since my last baby either! ;)4 years!! Too long - So that is one of my goals before this next baby is born - to make albumns for each of my girls so they can see pictures of themselves as babies.

I didn't know you could "follow" peoples blogs. How do I set that up?
